season of magic

Some of you may not know this, but my husband Jason and I work together at the Bellevue Club. We weren’t married when we started here, but actually tied the knot four years ago this month.

I remember our wedding day so vividly. We got engaged in Paris under the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower in December 2006. So for our wedding, we chose the theme “Christmas in Paris” and had our ceremony the day after Thanksgiving.

Our whole venue was dripping with illuminated Eiffel Towers, garland, reindeer, poinsettias and Christmas trees with takeaway Kennedy ornaments. Our wedding brought a whole new meaning to the holidays. It was just one more special reason to love this already magical season.

I grew up in a family who whole-heartedly celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas. The first of November marked the official kickoff of to the holiday season, and that’s when our traditions began. All of our decorations were up, Bing Crosby and the Beach Boys’ Christmas albums were in the car and we piled every Christmas movie ever made by the TV.

The holidays meant sharing moments with my family. Whether it be sharing laughs while watching “Christmas Vacation,” indulging in the comfort of home-cooked meals together or dressing the pets in bows and garland, the holidays gave us an excuse to put life on hold and enjoy each other’s company.

Some traditions are worth carrying on. As you read this article, you can bet on the fact that the Kennedy household is already decked out in lights and festive decorations, complete with a big red bow on my cat, Boo. I’ve probably already watched “A Christmas Story” at least five times, and Bing is certainly crooning on my iPod.

You will find the same to be true with the Bellevue Club. Rich in tradition and committed to enriching the lives of our members, the staff here hopes we can all add a little magic to your season this year through our holiday programs. Here are just a few you don’t want to miss:

•Bellevue Club Holiday Bazaar, Nov. 5
•Second-Annual Bellevue Club Magic Season celebration at the Bellevue Park Ice Arena, Dec. 4, 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Dec. 17, 9-11 a.m.
•Gingerbread House Decorating Party, Dec. 8 & 12
•Children’s Holiday Party, Dec. 10

I look forward to seeing you at some of these events and around the Club this season. Wishing you and your family a very happy holiday season!

Au revoir,

Bethany Kennedy
