The Adventures of Pet Travel
Who ever wants to leave their furry friend at home? If you’re getting ready to travel, here are some pet-friendly tips from the Hotel Bellevue to make your journey easier:

Check the weather.
Is it going to be hot? Remember, your pet can get heat stroke in warmer climates, especially if left in a car for long periods of time. Keep this in mind on long drives.

Fly climate-controlled.
If you plan to fly with your pet, choose an airline that takes extra care with animals and puts them in a climate-controlled cargo hold. This ensures your pets are traveling in an area that’s the same temperature as where you are, which helps alleviate some stress on both ends. Always check airline regulations for shipping pets before you travel. Most airlines will not ship pets as cargo to extremely hot or cold destinations.

DOG ROOM SERVICE AT HOTEL BELLEVUE

Did you know that dogs up to 30 pounds can stay at Hotel Bellevue? Even better, they can order their own room service daily until 11 p.m.

Forget lugging bland dog food when staying at the luxurious Hotel Bellevue. Instead, order a steaming, delicious dish of chicken, rice and vegetables for your furry friend.

Or, try something a bit more adventurous. According to Executive Chef Paul Marks, one loyal Hotel guest often orders a special birthday treat for her little dog: peanut butter and chopped liver.

“The dog loves it,” he says. “We get a lot of room service orders for dogs.”
Don’t forget food and water!
Just like you’d bring snacks for yourself, your pet will get hungry on long trips in the car or on the plane. If you’re driving, bring a few water bottles for your pets so you can easily access a drink for them. If they are flying with you, stick ice cubes in their water dishes. This way, the water will not spill during transport and will melt slowly.

Bring a bit of home.
Along with the standard items like a leash, a collar and a food dish, don’t forget some familiar toys and if you’re not bringing your dog’s crate, his or her familiar bed. Additionally, bring a first-aid kit and your dog’s most up-to-date medical records, including his microchip number. It never hurts to be prepared.

Try to keep a similar routine.
Feed your pets at their normal time and take them on walks just as you would at home. The schedule can offer your pet a sense of familiarity he or she might not have in a new place.

Find paw-friendly properties.
If you’re staying in a hotel, review their pet policy. Many hotels won’t allow pets to be left in the room unattended. Be sure to ask for a room away from additional noisemakers (i.e., the elevator, ice machine, and occupied guest rooms). This will cut down on unnecessary stress brought on by strange noises in an unfamiliar environment. Both the hotel and other guests will be appreciative of your efforts.

Tread lightly.
Be sure to obey all local laws and keep pets on leashes at all times. Make sure to clean up after your pet and wipe any dirty or wet pet paws before entering establishments. The best approach is to leave things the way you found them.

Safe travels!
