Beat the Winter Blues
Bellevue Club members are experts at beating the winterblues. Ski trips to Sun Valley and warm-weather getaways are definitely luxurious ways to avoid the gloom of a Northwest winter.
But what about when you can’t get away? If school and work commitments are keeping you rain-drenched, enjoy the list we’ve put together that will help you tolerate—and maybe even enjoy—another winter.
Get some sun. No, this isn’t a joke. Keep the drapes open on those south-facing windows, venture out when there’s a break in the clouds and take a walk on your lunch break. This isn’t Iceland, the sun does shine here in the winter—occasionally.
Even with the shorter days, finding just a few spare minutes to spend in the sun will help you gain some much-needed vitamin D and activate neurotransmitters in your brain that help keep you happy, just like a good workout. So grab your hat, scarves and umbrellas and get outside.
Freshen up your home. Whether it’s fresh flowers, a new coat of paint on some tired walls or rearranged furniture, find ways to brighten up your home and create a stimulating living environment that you look forward to each day.
Hold a game night. On a dreary winter night, gather the whole family and order pizza and pull out your favorite games. For a different twist, try karaoke, a make-your-pizza option or a family art project.
Get adventurous. Try a day trip to the coast for winter wave watching or try a new winter sport for the first time like cross-country skiing, ice skating or snowboarding. There are even snow-free trails at low elevation that are enjoyable to hike in the winter.
Whatever your way to beat the winter blues, subscribe to Hotel e-mail alerts, and we’ll keep you informed about events, news and specials all winter long. |
