| Juniors Enter USTA Winter League
Event kicks off season in style
Bellevue Club junior tennis players are poised to serve it to the rest of King County in the USTA Junior Winter League. With four Club teams and a total of 30 players, the program is focused on skill development, fun, teamwork and friendly competition. Comprised of at least three boys and three girls, each team has a weekly practice, special events and match play with other clubs in the area.
Junior member Maeve Bell, 14, is enjoying hitting the hardcourt with her peers.
“It’s lots of fun and practice in each area of tennis,” she says. “The practices and matches help me improve. I look forward to going every week.”
Sam French, 12, likes facing different opponents each week.
“It’s a new chance to meet new people and helps me improve by playing people I have not played before,” he says.
To celebrate the Club’s first year of participation in the winter league, the Tennis Department threw a special kickoff event this past fall. Organized by Bellevue Club pros Jon Annett and Zuzana Brogdon, six indoor courts were reserved and the participants played singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches. The USTA Junior Winter League runs through the end of February. Check back during the upcoming months for results.
“The junior league is very similar to the adult league,” says Tennis Director Brian Nash. “It’s a great program for juniors to get used to playing matches and develop their skills.”
