| Money Manners
By Anna Fenno, Social Director
From the time I could walk, my mother constantly found me in her closet trying on high-heeled shoes, dresses, lipstick—anything fashionable that I could get my chubby little hands on. To her disappointment, my love for clothing and accessories only increased as I learned how to read and wanted subscriptions to all the high-fashion magazines that contained things I could not afford. When back-to-school shopping time rolled around, we would have the dreaded discussion of my budget restraints and how I felt those restraints were hindering my self-expression. My creative complaints and yearning to own all the trendiest garb (that I would soon grow out of) were to no avail. My mother quickly declared that I would have to start using my own money to fund this “hobby.”
Maybe you have a little fashionista of your own or a teen who’s an aspiring musician. Whatever the situation, there’s no denying the importance of teaching your teens the importance of budgeting their money—especially if it’s actually your money. On Tuesday, April 27, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., a professional financial education manager will be leading a course at the Club just for teens on how to manage money and the benefits of sticking to it. For ages 15 to 18, this class will help identify spending habits, learn how to avoid credit card debt and how to develop a savings plan.
Teaching your kids healthy spending habits will give you peace of mind as they move into the future. Call the Social Office at 425.688.3384 to reserve a spot.
Next on the agenda, check out our second monthly Family Social Night on Sunday, April 25. This time we will be poolside for the “April Pools Day Fair.” No tricks here, just good old-fashioned family bonding as you learn about water safety through fun activities and prizes. Collect stamps from each station on your “Passport to Safe Summer Fun” and redeem it at the prize booth for a chance to win water-related prizes. After all the poolside action, enjoy a delicious buffet dinner with other Bellevue Club families. The pool portion will run from
5-6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served from 6-7:30 p.m.
