Tour de Cure
Hit the streets for a cause
Bellevue Club cyclists and spinners are taking to the streets en masse this spring. On May 22, look for a swarm of Club members and staff drafting through the farmlands of King County at the annual Tour de Cure—or better yet, join them.
Sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, Tour de Cure brings out thousands of riders for the purpose of supporting those living with diabetes, as well as raising awareness about prevention of the disease. And this year, the Bellevue Club and Hotel Bellevue are putting a team together for members and guests of all ages.
With varying lengths starting and finishing in Redmond’s Marymoor Park, choose from the family-friendly 15-mile course all the way up to the 100-mile ride. Athletic Services Desk Director Bethany Kennedy sits on the ADA Board and saw the Tour de Cure as a great way for members to get involved with a good cause.
With most of her aunts and uncles living with diabetes, the issue is personal for Bethany.
“Everybody is affected by diabetes, either personally or through someone they know,” she says.
In March, members turned out for the Bellevue Club Spinathon, which raised money for the ADA and also generated excitement for the main event in May. Spin instructors Shannon Paterson and Mark Nicholson taught five hours of spin classes with the proceeds going towards diabetes research and prevention.
“Every cent of it goes to the ADA,” Bethany says.
