See the rarest form of petrified wood at Washington state’s own Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park. The Ginkgo tree was extinct in North America millions of years ago, but not before some of them became petrified near Vantage. The tree has since been reintroduced in North America, and live ginkgos can be seen near the Interpretive Center in the 7,470-acre state park. In addition to more than 50 species of petrified trees, visitors can also see prehistoric petroglyphs and the remains of prehistoric animals. The park is located one mile north of Vantage and is now a registered national natural landmark. For more information, visit www.parks.wa.gov.
