For the second year in a row, the Northwest Film Forum is holding their Children’s Film Festival Jan. 27 through Feb. 4. The festival includes more than 70 animated and live-action films from 23 countries that are appropriate for the whole family. There are also three movie-making workshops available for kids in conjunction with the festival. The films made during the workshops will premier during the closing night of the festival. Film collections include “Legends, Fables and Dreams,” a group
of award-winning animated films suitable for all ages; “Blast Off to Adventure!” a collection of animated adventure films appropriate for all ages; “World of Wonder,” a collection of award-winning short live-action films suitable for children 7 and older; “Point of Departure,” a group of animated and live-action films designed to challenge and inspire children
9 and up; a screening of the film “Opal Dream,” and many more. Workshops include making the “Festival Trailer 2008” with Seattle filmmaker Natt Thangvijit. This workshop is for children 7 to 12. They will experience every stage of filmmaking, from preproduction to shooting and editing. “Hansel and Gretel: The Remake” is a workshop for kids 8 and older. They will work with Seattle filmmaker
SJ Chiro to create a new, live-action twist on the classic fairy tale. For kids interested in animation, they can help create “Lego Zombie Attack! The Movie” with animator Lisa Wardle. This
workshop is for children 8 and older. All workshops have limited spaces available, and tuition must be paid in advance. For information about the workshops, call Dave at 206-329-2629. Tickets are $6 for children and adults, and are available at www.nwfilmforum.org or 800-838-3006. Many screenings sell out, so advanced tickets are recommended.
