Founded in 1934, the Washington Park Arboretum is internationally recognized for its woody plant collections. Spread over 230 acres, the arboretum displays collections of rhododendrons, azaleas, mountain ash, pine, spruce, cedar, fir, crab apple, holly, magnolia, camellia and Japanese maple trees. It has 20,000 trees, shrubs and vines, and 139 plants in the park are on the endangered species list. The arboretum is open from dawn to dusk daily. The Graham Visitors Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and the Japanese Garden is open daily during summer months. Admission is $5 for the Japanese Garden and free for the rest of the park.
