For a creepy, crawly good time, visit the Victoria Bug Zoo in Victoria, British Columbia. The zoo offers a fun, safe atmosphere to see the more than 40 species of spiders and insects, such as the dragon-headed cricket shown above. Visitors can get up close and personal with the creatures; they can even hold a 400-leg millipede that stretches the length of a forearm. Throughout the zoo are “bug guides” who can help answer questions about the inhabitants. See live giant walking sticks, praying mantises, tarantulas, glow-in-the-dark scorpions and the largest ant farm in
Canada. The Bug Zoo Giftshop features a wide selection of items including pet tarantulas, insect collecting kits and Cricket-Lick-It bug-infused lollipops. The Bug Zoo is open daily except Christmas and New Year’s Day. For information, visit www.bugzoo.bc.ca or e-mail bugs@bugzoo.bc.ca.
