The Seattle Yacht Club will usher in the start of boating season with the annual Opening Day boat parade through Seattle’s Montlake Cut on Saturday, May 7. Thousands of spectators will gather along the shoreline of the cut and hundreds of pleasure boats will moor along the race course to watch the parade and the events leading up to it, including the opening day rowing regatta, known as the Windermere Cup.
This year’s event showcases men’s and women’s varsity rowing teams from the Czech Republic, Cornell University and the University of Washington. In addition to the varsity crew competition, the regatta includes events for mixed crews and rowers in 40-plus and 50-plus age categories.
